| Anyone know why Nova is suddenly advertising a bunch of positions around the country? I noticed and was just curious to know why. |

Because they're spectacularly short on teachers. Here in Kyushu students are getting annoyed at constantly having difficulties scheduling lessons because there aren't enough teachers. We were warned at orientation to dodge questions on this subject.
I'm just surprised it took Nova this long to go on a hiring spree. |

Because thanks to this forum people have cottoned on the fact that its a generally sh-itty place to work with a lousy reputation, low salary, and they are giving it a miss.
NOVA has rested on its laurels for being the 500 pound gorilla for far too long and they are now paying the price.
The other thing may be that they have simply got too big, too many schools open and not enough teachers to fill them. |

| Basically, a lot of teachers quit. Were I used to work in the past year about 16 teachers quit. Not one new teacher was hired to replace the 16. I was one of the 16. |

16 teachers is an average of one a month. Not bad batting average. Better question would be, why should they stay? |

I guess I really have no idea how many teachers might be employed at one NOVA branch. I've never set foot in one.
I wonder how many foreigners work at Brad's former workplace. Considering that the cram schools (hagwons) I worked at in Korea had two and nine foreign teachers, respectively, having 16 quit in one year is a huge amount. For the record, I was the first teacher not to finish a one-year contract at the second hagwon I worked for (with 9 foreigners) in about 2 years. We parted on good terms.
Is NOVA really that bad? I mean, I wouldn't consider working there at this point. I have enough contacts that I can do and am doing better, but what about any friends that I have from the homeland who want to come here? Is NOVA something I could recommend for a first-timer ESLer in Japan, or should it be avoided completely? |

| who has quit NOVA, and then found work elsewhere? I'm waiting to move to Japan through NOVA, and I'm curious what you have to do (will your visa still be valid?) if things do get sh*tty (ANYTHING can happen anywhere to anyone) |

You can work elsewhere on the same visa after you quit your job. If you want to renew your visa you will need to find another sponsor and someone to sponsor you full time.
You can quit NOVA as long as you give on months notice.
PS the jobs you get after NOVA can be just as shi-tty so its not a great leap from one to the other. |

This is one of the main reasons why Japan is a better place to work, overall, than Korea. You're boss doesn't OWN you here!
You can always tell your boss where to stick it if you're being treated like a slave here, while it becomes a delicate game of chess in Korea if you want to find a new job. That is a major issue. |

Because people realize that this is a dump of a organization to work for. Having NOVA on a resume is an embarrassment and disgrace. |

After you have been here a few years you can quietly leave it off your resume, unless some one asks. It was so long ago that it doesnt matter any more, but I have had university employers ask me to list where I worked when I first came to Japan.
Its no great loss if you can leave it off your CV but you have to build up some related experience first.
