Who do you think of if I say "Elvis"?
I went into a second hand music shop to buy some ELvis but there were no CDs of Mr Presley anywhere only Elvis Costello. Is Elvis Costelo more popular in Japan than the BIG BOPPER?!!? I also notice that "Country Roads" is very popular in Japan. I also know that there is a band called "Big in Japan". I think this was a joke way of saying that some bands become very popular here but nowhere else. Deep Purple for example. Do you know any other examples? |

The Big Bopper? The one that died in the plane crash with Buddy Holly?
I'm pretty darn sure Deep Purple are popular all over the world. I worked in a music store for 2 years here in Australia and we sold plenty of Deep Purple.
I know DEVO were very popular in Japan. |

Brian Setzer and rockabilly seems a bit popuar here and lots of Jazz is very popular here but not very popular in other countries. I sometimes go to coffee shops run by old people playing John Coltrane and things like that but I cannot imagine thast happening back home. Tatu is popular here too. |

How does one pronounce ywngie malsteen anyway? I read a book about linguistics that said making a brand you cannot pronounce is a bad idea because it wont sell. but maybe the katakana spelling helped them. Oh no, they are thinking now if only we made a pronouncable name maybe we could be big in USA too. |
