Here in Turkey I expect average TEFLer pay and conditons to go down because of the following reasons:

taxes, accomodation and energy prices are going up fast
if we get into the EU prices and taxes will skyrocket
the tax and social security system is in for radical reform and TEFLers will have to pay into it some day
hourly pay continues to dominate language schools
competion amongst language schools is fierce and new ones open all the time-TEFLers pay and conditons are the main casualty
look at what happened to pay and conditons for TEFLers in Spain
low cost airlines will flood the market with would be TEFLers

I vote for a third option: no change.
The wages are generally somewhat better than a local teacher's pay, and I see no reason for that to change in the future.

I agree with Is650 - things tend to stabilize over time. I was teaching in Korea in 92-95 before the economic meltdown and again for the last three years (ending in Dec - back in Thailand now) - and in fact, was making a lot more - comparatively speaking. But that is with many years experience.

Base wages for entry-level jobs - in the several countries where I have taught EFL have gone up and down depending a bit on economic conditions - but at this time - are right about where they were in 1992. (that is accounting for inflation/cost of living/etc.)

In Japan, work and salary conditons have gone down in the past 10 years. I would have liked to have been here in the early 90s, but alas you can't change that.
I can't see it get much worse, who would want to come here if it did? Perhaps for Americans, it isn't such a bad deal as their dollar is already in the tank.
