Boy, EF sounds great! javascript:emoticon(' ')
Aren't there any other options for working in Pedang? It sounds like a really cool region to be in, and the city is not small. I've been in EFL for almost 20 years btw.
Their application forum also says no one over 45. I'm 42 (45 ain't far!), but that kind of thing really stinks. |

You'd do better working in PADANG. |

Wow, they've lowered the age limits again!
But as someone on these pages once said, "it's hard to be a singing, dancing monkey".
Esp if you're so close to the wheel-chair at 45. |

Oh yes, I could keel over any day now. Especially climbing 2000 meter mountains. What the h*** am I going to do when I'm 55? Or 65? Volunteer?
I can't understand this policy. Obviously many (but by no means all) really good teachers are going to have long experience. Is this a glamour thing like NOVA here in Japan?
It's Padang, thanks for the correction. Anyone know how I can find out more? Could I just go there and have a good chance at finding something? I'm just looking for a livable wage. |

I hear ya. One of the biggest chains here in Mexico (United English) won't take applications from teachers over 35. It seems rather silly that they would exclude someone who's 36 and can teach, but it's their own throat they're cutting.
Screw 'em and go work for someone that wants more than a babysitter for the kiddies. |

In Padang there are three employers of native speaker ESL teachers. EF employs 4-5, there is a tiny school on Jl. A Yani (name escapes me) that employs one - but this has been the same one for years and she is showing no signs of going - and finally the US State Dept keeps an exchange fellow at Andalas university. That's it.
There is a senior high school (SMA 1, Jl. Sudiraman) that has started an ambitious 'international' stream with some subjects taught in English but this school cannot afford to employ foreigners. |

Not much for a city of 800,000, is it? Thanks for the info. |
