So, you've finally made it to the Middle Kingdom and are confronted with textbooks "skillfully" written by the locals, proof-checked by the locals, and generally endorsed by said locals...

As the FE it involves fighting years of conditioning in the English language, hard core training, and sleepless nights to tackle the books at face value.

"You've gotta be kidding!" is the blood curling cry at 3 in the morning.

But seriously folks, just out of curiosity and in your vast experiences, what have you done to tackle the, "you're teaching listening and speaking with the local teachers doing intensive reading/grammar etc, and you must keep up with the unit that they're on..."?

We are talking about college students sitting in language labs - you know, the headset variety.

I just want to know your thoughts, that's all. I'll probably ignore them anyway, being an expert an' all! Cool

Part of the word ignorance is ignore. Ignore them. You are there to get the kids to speak. So do it. Smile (like they do), agree, and do your thing. Worked for me 15 months only foreigner finished two contract with 500 students a week. IGNORE them. They are jealous of you and want to give you a hard time.
