scb222 is showing his/her pedigree again by pronouncing judgements on the whole of teaching in Turkey based on his/her gang's sorry experience ...
... sure many would agree that kids at certain private schools don't make for great conditions ... but if you don't think you can handle them, then don't work in such a place ... use your noodle before taking a job ...
... the students I encountered while at a state university in Istanbul were great - able, polite, and willing to work despite being on a compulsory programme ... and those at a language school were very respectful and interested in being there at least ...
Don't be put off coming to Turkey by the rantings of a misfit .... |

| You certainly can save as much here as in Korea. 25 hours at 20 YTL with a part time contract is 2000 YTL, or 1500 US. Throw in 10 hours of privates a week at 40 YTL or so, and you've got another 1600 YTL a month, or 1200 US. That's 2700 US. Eat like a Turk, drink like a Turk (very little), and you'll be hard pressed not to save the same as in Korea. |

I have known lots of teachers who didn't do privates. It isn't a sure thing, especially for a new teacher. |

That's true. It's easy to count on a nice salary, then have 18 of 19 lessons cancelled... |

| K-12 teaching means that you have to wake up early in the morning, and generally be presentable, but you also get paid the same salary every month, and usually on time. Easy to budget with. sometimes they throw in free rent, even easier to budget! |
