I'm talking about the diameter of the swelling, not the height.
It was red and itchy, but like I said, it didn't hurt at all.
Maybe it was a mosquito with bad breath?

Maybe the mosquito had got its last meal sucking on a soi dog's bottom? You may have got off lightly. |

Ha - seems I got my reply.
I also get swellings like golf balls when I get bitten by mozzies. I just guess that the mozzie had sucked for a longer time and injected more poison in such a bite...
The best remedy I have found so far for scratchy bites is to apply an ice pack to them. I freeze some water in small plastic sealed bags and put them on my body when the itching hits in. Great for restless nights. It's much better than any creams which are truly hopeless imo.
I've also gone for sewing 2 white cotton sheets together like a bag and sleeping in that. With a fan blowing over me, it's just about cool enough for me to sleep. Since the 'bag' I've only had bites to my face during the night. Much better than before.
Sounds like Thai mozzies are much the same as in most other Asian countries. |

| ^ Probably a slight allergy to the bites...I rarely if ever get bitten...and when I do they're tiny. |

If you're tattooed on your lower arms, you'll have to wear a long-sleeved shirt. Ties - I was told by the agency who placed me at my present school that I would have to wear these. But I slowly managed to get the school used to seeing me tie-less and now, four days out of five, that is the way I dress.
Mozzies - to be honest I've been less bothered by them here in BKK than I was back in NZ. My first apartment was too high up for them. The apartment I'm in now is on the sixth floor but has metallic gauze screens. Definitely something to look for if you're apartment hunting. |

I don't understand. If you've got the fan blowing over you it will be too strong for the mozzies to come near you. Maybe crank it a notch and have it further back so it scans your whole body. Also when I went to sleep I used to scan the room with those electric tennis raquet mozzie zappers and get most of them, and the ones that were left didn't get near me cuz a the fan. Never got bit at night with this regiment.

| Fans help, but they're not perfect. Sometimes they blow the mosquitoes towards you rather than away, or the buggers can sneak up in the leeside of your body. |
