Hi. New here. Currently in Japan (with mountain bike Cool ). I'm very interested in Sumatra and would love to spend a lot of time there before they cut EVERYTHING down, but is Pekanbaru the only place to teach English?

No offense to anyone living there, but it doesn't sound the most pleasant of cities to even pass through, much less live in. But on the other hand if someone could tell me of its other not so obvious charms I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance.

It's the equivalent of Newmarket in Ontario or the Newmarket section of Auckland.

The province of West Sumatra is one of the most beautiful places in Indonesia and the cool, hilly region around Bukittinggi and lake Maninjau would be excellent for mountain biking. However, the only English teaching opportunities in the province are in Padang at EF.

Yep - beautiful place and great coastline - ideal for mountain biking. Im stuck in Jakarta with a FAITH and no mountains to throw it down Twisted Evil

Imagine the salaries will be on the low side, and when you mention EF and work in the same sentence, salaries will be rock bottom and maybe your housing will be a tree house Laughing

It's a bit like McDonalds but the colour scheme is predominantly blue. It is a chain of franchised language schools that operates throughout Indonesia.
