|
|
I just came across a job offer on Dave's posted by Berlitz in Jeddah. It has got to be the worst offer for this part of the world I have ever come across! I don't usually do this, but I couldn't resist the following e-mail to their recruiter: Hi, I couldn't resist a reply to your offer. I do not however want to apply, but just say that this has to be the worst job offer I have seen in years. Really, 8-11 classes a day-how do you justify exploiting a teacher like that? The average is probably 4-6 for legitimate schools and companies in this area. How do you guys prevent teacher burnout? And with everything happening in KSA now, do you really just want ESL rejects? Who else in their right mind would come now for that money to risk their lives??? I live in the UAE and am aware of the job and earning potential in the area-yours must be the worst April Fool's joke I have seen on Dave's in a long time! Shame on you guys.
Grande Fromage
I forgot to comment on their 15 vacation days offered after you've taught a year. What do you guys think? Isn't this the most insulting offer you've seen in a long time? Presonally, I think this offer stinks big time; stay away from them! |

By the way, how much are they paying?
Not that I'm interested, of course! What I also want to know is how on earthe they can hope to attract people on that crap deal, particularly in the current climate? Sure, there are lots of loonies in the EFL world, but really ... |

I think it's 7000 Riyals or something like that for 5.5 days of work at that ridiculous schedule! That's less than half of what you can make in the UAE for less than half the work with little risk to your life, not counting the crazy traffic. But I hear traffic's worse in Saudi |

They get people who have never been in Saudi, and have not done any research.
Once they are in saudi these unfortuntes find that others are getting twice their salary.Too late. They cannot just switch employers becasue they need a "No Objection Certificate" from Berlitz. This is not forthcomimng. |

I saw an ad recently for teachers in Hafr Al Batin. 6,000 a month.
They should be paying about 3 times that !!! |

On the subject of bad job offers i was talking to a mate of mine who works for BAE last night and apparently they are recruiting teachers at the moment and they are paying wait for it 8000 riyals a month.
That should make for some interesting conversations around the dining room halls at BAE.
Most of the current employees are getting double that.
They are also excluded from the bonus system and get only two not three tickets. |

EFL teachers getting less money and respect than their colleagues?
How unusual. (Not!) |
