Does anyone know where I can get a legal, full-time job? Any names of schools, and how to apply there would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a bundle! |

Most of the schools that teach TOEFL will only hire experienced teachers. The best way to get a job is approaching the schools directly.
Nanyang Street and the area just south of Taipei Station has a lot of schools teaching TOEFL and other exam preparation courses. Another spot with a number of schools is the area around Zhongxiao-Dunhua.
The names of a few schools you might try are ELITE, ELTS, Times International and Trinity. |

What kind of qualifications and experience do you need for these kinds of jobs? |

Not if you wanna work with adults. This seems to be a common misconception, so allow me to elucidate. You need to be able to teach English in an enlightening and entertaining fashion. If you just show up, you'll stop being asked to.

No kidding, Pop Fly, Teaching adults is nothing like showing up and singing "I'm a little teapot." They complain. They make you work. They tell you what they want. They have specific needs. They've been through scads of experienced teachers and know how it's supposed to be done, and if you misspell on the board they'll look it up in the little electronic dictionaries they all own and correct YOU. People who are underqualified get laughed out of jobs teaching adults.
Anyway, my question was: what kinds of qualifications do you need to teach the high-paying TOEFL and exam preparation courses? I'm good at this kind of stuff, so I'd be interested in specializing in it.
Anyway, Cathy, most of the good schools hire from withing Taiwan. Don't be scared to come here and live in a hostel for a while. I don;t know of any good adult schoold that hire from overseas. Generally, if a school hires from overseas, it's because people who are already here know better than to work for them. There are exceptions, but I don't know of any in the adult teaching world. |

I just deleted several postings from this thread for being personal attacks and containing insults. The thread is now locked. Should it be unlocked and should the personal stuff and insults continue, it is very probable that some people will be taking temporary or permanent vacations from this board. |

Mr. K,
I am glad you've deigned to unlock this thread. Sorry about my little flame, but it really get's my goat when people lay waste to my profession.
Cheers
