Kent, your solution was smart and correct in the light of the data you had in mind, but Im afraid I accidentally misinformed you. Im a Greek Cypriot but Im currently in the UK pursuing an LLM (Masters in Laws) in International Law-not that it matters, its just that you rightly assumed I am in Cyprus. The Thai Consular I was being referred to is the Thai Consular at Hull (near Manchester). I talked about non-immigrant B. Yes you are right I do need letter from the employer for that. What I wanted to say is non-immigrant category O visa. I apologize to all for the confusion-my mistake.
My question to all: I understand that you need to go to another country in order to get a visa to enter Thailand. But if e.g. you are going to Malaysia, or Cambodia whatever, dont you also need to get a visa in Thailand for Malaysia or Cambodia so that these countries will let you in? And another thing: in as soon as you cross the border, how do you get the visa-I mean dont you have to go to a town and find a Thai Consular or Thai Embassy? Cambodian soldiers at the borders issue visas for Thailand? How does it work? |

There are immigration checkpoints on both sides of the border.
You walk up to the window and hand them your passport.
It's that simple. No need to hitchhike into town.
Yes, most nationalities do need a visa to enter Cambodia but
that too is obtained immediately at the border checkpoint.
It's US $20 and is included in the 2,000 Baht fee.
If you go with Quick Thai Visa, all of your visa forms are filled out
before you leave Bangkok, allowing you to spend roughly 20 minutes
lurking around at the duty-free shops on the Cambodian side of the border.
As for the non-imm O question, I'll leave that one for kenkannif.
To tirelesstravelerasia re: slightly upscale visa-runs
AirAsia offers really cheap flights to most of the places
you'd want to go for a non-B: http://www.airasia.com/

Don't need a Visa for Malaysia (generally unless you're a 'funny' nationality....which you're not). Do for Cambodia (can get it on the border for around a 1,000 Baht).
Also if you're doing a BORDER run to activate your next entry (as you would need to do on a multi Non-imm Visa of any kind (generally)) you don't need to go to an Embassy or Consulate....rather just step out and come back in....BANG you got your next lot of 90 days.
You only need to apply at a Consulate/Embassy if you want a longer Visa as you don't hold a current one or don't want to come in on 30 day stamps.
I hope this is clear? If not please let me know!!!
All the best! |

Kent, how did your trip go? Now's your chance to persuade me not to use the guy at On Nut. Charge = B1800; leave at 8am, back by 5pm, same border crossing as yours, lunch included at the casino (but not so good for long-leggers - a Mercedes van). Plus, he'll give you some very useful bargaining tips if you're buying duty-free at the border.

^ Hello AnchorMan !
The On Nut run sounds like a good deal; decent travel times,
200 Baht cheaper than most of the other services out there
& discount Viagra at the Cambodian border? Ooolala !!!
re: Quick Thai Visa
the new bus is VERY comfortable, with the same legroom you'd
find in the first-class cabin of an airplane; reclining captain's chairs
that extend horizontally on a rail, in case a big guy sits down next to you,
VCD movies in stereo, a powerful air-conditioner and a good suspension.
It's a little slower than the Toyota mini-van, but a lot more comfortable.
AnchorMan
Tell me more about the On Nut service.
I'd like to post that information on
The Master Index Thailand.
Specifically -
* a mobile # for reservations
* exact departure location @ On Nut
* which days of the week you run
* web URL or E-mail address

|

I will soon need to ACTIVATE the second 60 days of my double.
I am able to afford quick or cheap flights. I hate mini-buses etc.
Presumably I just need to land, go through, and return, whereby the next 60 will activate at DM?
Where should I go? Ventiane?
My boyfriend is from Udon, he suggests that we fly up there, see the in-laws, and then dash across in a car. Which place is that on Laos border? Is it easy?
Cheers

From Udon Thani, I believe Nong Khai
would be the nearest border crossing.
Depending on the living arrangements at your boyfriend's place,
you might want to consider Silver Reef B & B in Udon Thani.
It's brand new, with brightly furnished rooms and
decent rates starting at 690 Baht for a single -
and that includes breakfast & tax.
There's also a new airline serving Udon Thani: Isaan Air
& for general information, UdonMap is a nice resource.

The advert as in the Bangkok Post:
'Visa Run Cambodia. THB 1800 - incl all visa formalities and fees, lunch @ Ban Laem. European management. VIP van, TV/DVD. Depart BTS OnNut @ 8.00 AM, return 5.00 PM.
Contact 01-815-4803
www.thaivisaservice.com '
The meet place is on the first floor at the food hall in the Tesco-Lotus building. Just look for the farangs. I believe it's an every-day of the week operation, but best to call ahead and make a reservation, just in case. |

| I'll stick with the 2,000bt service. As an American, it costs 1,000 baht to enter Cambodia. The service I use takes care of all the paperwork on the Cambodian side, and you get a pretty good free lunch buffet at one of the casinos. They play movies on the bus. When you add up the costs and inconvenience of taking songtows, buses, trains, plus the Cambodian visa fee, how much do you really save? Not much. |
