Hi
I know similiar topics have come up on the forum, but couldn't quite find an answer. I'm from South Africa, coming to Taiwan in September to teach English. I'm a BA graduate, with a TEFL, applying through Hess, so no problems there. My partner is coming with - she's got a teaching Diploma from a teaching college here, and over 10 years experience teaching (in both SA and the UK). But she doesn't have a bachelors degree, and no TEFL cert.
I see that most ppl come to the aggreement that to get a work permit, you either need a bachelors degree, or a diploma AND TEFL.
Seeing that my partner only has a diploma - do you think this will be a huge massive problem.
She won't be able to do a TEFL before arriving in Taiwan - so plan B would to maybe do a crash-course in Taiwan.
Does anyone know of any good (and relatively cheap) TEFL courses in Taiwan? What are prices like?
Thanks for the info

Sorry, no legal jobs for your partner...it's just the way it is. But you could make an honest man/woman outta her/him and then once you have an ARC, get her a spousal ARC. S/he is immensley employable, just not legally.
Sorry. |

thanks for the reply
i realise it's gonna be a bit tricky. No marriage plans though, think i'm a bit young for that! Phew
As i mentioned I'm applying through Hess. I asked them about said partner's situation, and they said it would be fine - except she needed a TEFL cert, that's all. So i figured if it's ok for Hess, then surely just having a Diploma+TEFL will be ok (this assuming she does TEFL course in Taiwan).
what do you think? |
