Does anyone have information on whether Russian racist killings are out of control? The BBC has run several stories on that lately.

I often find there is a screaming headline but I can't find anyone who has actually experienced anything wrong. I wondered if anyone in this discussion group has noticed anything happening in Russia. What's the word on the street? Is it business as usual or is there reason for concern?

According to the Independent, which has produced a few articles over the last couple of years, most of the violence is in St Petersburg, Moscow and Voronezh. In the last of these, university students have been targeted. Having said that, a Russian friend in a small southern town found to his consternation that a set of skinheads were doing some form of military training in the woods nearby.
