Given all the recent stupidity and controversy surrounding live World Cup soccer games, I've entirely re-done my original schedule that I posted here. I will make the old schedule available (edited version) in my bottom post in this thread. So, if you want the Skyperfect schedule, please scroll to the bottom of this thread.
The top post now reflects NHK's BS-1 channel schedule, which SHOULD be live games. The live games are highlighted in BOLD. Please see some of the other threads on Dave's if you don't know what BS-1 is or how to get it. Please don't ask those questions here.
So, here is my original posting (with the approrpiate edits).

Okay everyone. Since there have been numerous questions regarding watching World Cup soccer this summer, here are the answers to your questions.
1. YES. You can watch World Cup soccer here in Japan.
2. YES. It's going to be broadcast live (and pre-recorded too).
3. You need to have one of the following:
a) a TV with a BS satellite or access to NHK channels
b) SkyperfecTV (satellite)
c) a good local bar with one of the above
4. BS-1 is showing 90% of all the games live. Things start to get hairy when the schedule moves to 4 games/day instead of 3. When this happens, NHK has chosen to air select games live and the others on tape-delay. If you were hoping to see one of the live-cut games live, please consult the other broadcast schedule elsewhere on Dave's -- the one that lists different TV stations.
The rest of the information that follows is only for those of you who have access to NHK's BS-1 channel. If you are looking for the old Skyperfect schedule, please note that NONE of their games are coming on live.
Most games that start at 3:45 am actually have a kickoff time of 4:00 am. In fact, that goes for most games being broadcast on BS-1.

Thanks a lot Jim. I can't believe skyperfect is broadcasting EVERY game. That's great.
Too bad the US and Iran aren't in the same group. |

hehe... Thanks guys. I'll run for PM of Japan the same day the U.S. elects an African-American Jewish woman president....
English broadcasts... Um. If you give me a day or so I can probably find that out too. I'll keep you all posted. I'd also like to know that so I know how to set my VCR properly if it's broadcasting bilingual on SAP. |

Thanks Jim although I don't have Sky perfect it's at least an indication of the BS schedule .
OK I just Looked up the BS Schedule and it looks like lot of work trying to figure it out so extra credit to Jim. |

This is the Skyperfect World Cup soccer game broadcast schedule. Any references to live games have been deleted, as they are just not true (my bad -- sorry).  I still have NO idea what Sky intends to air during all those blocks of time in their schedule where they have "live games" written in, but obviously have no intention to air them -- only to record them at that time.
So, if you miss any games live, or if NHK's rebroadcast schedule doesn't suit you, a lot of these games come on at different times than on BS-1, so this may still be useful to some of you.
As a disclaimer, I no longer give a rat's crap as to the accuracy of the Skyperfect schedule. I hope that when I edited it I didn't delete something I shouldn't have. If I did, please inform me anyway and if I have time I'll correct the errors.
This schedule is a mere ghost of its former self....

The top schedule is for BS-1 ONLY....
However, having said that, if you are looking at the live schedule, I suppose if you channel-surf at the appointed time, you may find another carrier broadcasting the same game (like TBS or Asahi or NHK analog).
The rebroadcast schedule is strictly for BS-1. |
