I am thinking about taking a position offered by this recruiter has anyone heard of this recruiter? It would be teaching adults mon-sat full time at night for 55,000. Any help would be appreciated.

What does full time mean? 20, 30, 40 hours a week?
Why are you going with a recruiter? Why not try a chain school which will have an easily searchable history instead of a one man band who I suspect nobody has heard of. The pay would be the same at a chain.

I used to work for Kojen, admittedly a while ago so my info is likely out of date, however they are still often mentioned on this site as a reasonable starting point for a newbie. Plenty of info on them too. Do a search.

In this case I believe that this may be very good advice.

Of course recruiters can serve their purpose and there are some good recruiters out there, but I am not so sure that this is one of them. The guy offers a lot of positions in the area in which his school is, but there is not a lot of verifiable information available about him. Have you asked him for the contact details of some teachers he has placed before? Ensure to ask for phone numbers also.

I think it really comes down to research. If you can find a significant body of positive evidence about a particular school, that has to a better shot for a newbie than a school or recruiter with little or no published info. That's not to say the unknown school/recriuter are bad, they are just unknown.

I 've decided after taking a look at their contract that I am not going to work for a recruiter. I am interested in teaching adults only. I have a bachelor's degree with a TEFL certificate and over 6 years of teaching. I am 46 years old so the jobs don't come by so easily. I am checking the internet for job openings teaching adults only. If anyone knows of any positions open please let me know. Thanks for the information guys.

Kojen has an adult department and hires 'older people'. I don't know if you will get away with only teaching adults though.

Good advice, Mark Holmes.

One man band schools can be heaven or hell. Sometimes you luck into a small friendly operation, and sometimes you find yourself working for people who barely know how to run a school and have inadequate materials for you to use to teach from. Also, sometimes they go out of business.

I suspect the great ones retain their employees for years, and the miserable ones are always having to hire new teachers from overseas, so be wary.

I think chain schools are a good idea for a newbie because at leat you know they aren't going to go out of business overnight and are run by someone who at least knows how to run a business.

I've heard good things about both Kojen and Hess. However, I also heard recently that Kojen has been having trouble with the police. Does anybody know about this?
