Hi, I have some questions related to El Salvador and appreciate any insight anyone can provide. My fiance and I currently live in Maryland. He is originally from El Salvador and I am from Canada. He wants to go to school and we're debating between the two places. I have a BA in Linguistics and want to teach English but do not have certification. I have some experience teaching English as a volunteer. There is a TESOL cert. class starting in a month at the uni I went to, can anyone tell me if this would be an acceptable certification?

Other than this program I can't find any other tesol training classes in the dc metro area!
Would I be able to find a job in El Salvador with this type of background? Does anyone know about Canada as well? Although I was born in Canada and am a citizen and able to legally work there, I've never lived there and the thought of moving there seems more overwhelming than moving to El Salvador!
The other problem I have is my fiance believes that an education from a university in El Salvador is worthless. That he would spend 4 years studying for nothing because when we try to come here or go to canada that his degree wouldnt be worth anything. Is there anyway of knowing if a degree would transfer to a us or canadian university, like if he wanted to get a masters degree there? Can anyone offer any insights into the universities in El Salvador? Also, he wants to do social work, what undergrad degree would be must suited to that?
One other question, if he were to complete say 2 years of an undergrad in ES and then transfer to a canadian uni would he even get credit for those two years? At this point, if he wanted to go to school at an English speaking university, his English intermediate, I dont think it's strong enough for uni. Whereas if we go to ES, he could jump right in and study in spanish. sorry this is so long, if anybody has any other suggestions as well, I'm open to anything! Thanks so much! |
