I got an email from ABC School. Does anybody have any info about this place? What would a standard contract be in Mexico? This place pays 70 pesos an hour. No holiday pay either. Any info would help.
Thanks |

$70 pesos an hour is average. Not being paid for holidays is illegal. Labor law is VERY clear about this but there are loopholes - contracts not including summer vacation etc. but do you REALLY want to work for a company like this? What else do they not offer? |

Be careful. Be very careful if you intend to work for abc school. You asked about a standard contract, but they don't give contracts. Their position on this is that a contract will only benefit them, so if you really want to push the issue you will end up in a worse situation than without one. They also don't really like to organise working visas. Its hit and miss as to whether they will do it. They do offer accommodation (if you can call it that) but often in bad areas. The houses they offer also usually have problems with water, gas etc. Honesty is not really a word that you could associate with the directors of this school. They offer placements at other locations but the truth is there are no other locations. They like to tell new teachers fabrications as to why they have such a high turn over of staff. There are no paid vacations, in fact there are no vacations past the obligatory holiday days if you have company classes. There are no bonuses, there are few resources or support for teachers.
If you are really interested in working in Mexico there are much nicer cities, much better schools and much better employers than abc. A lot of schools don't advertise on the internet but there are unlimited oportunites in Mexico for a native teacher.
I hope this information helps. |

So where is this ABC school? Nowhere in this thread can I determine where they are located. There are plenty of part-time teaching jobs with no benefits in this country. It's a fact of life here. Many schools in my area hire nationals to teach English. They stay put and don't complain, happy to have the jobs. |

I believe it's in Poza Rica.............although there may be more than one.
They used to advertise often on one of the free sites........... what that might mean, quien sabe?
I was actually thinking of working there for a time............now I'm glad I stayed in Korea..............err well, not exactly glad about the Korea part, just glad that I'm getting paid regularly.
The sketchy working conditions and low wages are among the main reasons why I chose not to return to Mexico. I love Mexico, by the way, I just don't know if I could ever handle working/living there again.
Cheers |

It is in Poza Rica, Veracruz. Of course these conditions may be okay if you were thinking of working part time. Once you buy your ticket to Mexico and give up your life elsewhere most people want something a bit more secure than the odd class here and there and no benefits. |

Talking about ABC Schools. I wouldn't be paying much attention the our Pixie 8 friend seeing that she was fired from there. I work in ABC and yes mistakes were made in the past but they have been corrected. I have no problems with the school and I think it is sour grapes on the part of UNA ( pixie8). Una stop it "get a life" Why don't you tell them why you got the shove? |
