Just an update on IH Saudi Arabia. I have just returned. So as not to seem TOO scaremongering I will give you a few FACTS, not tales or anecdotes. FACT 1) IH SAUDI ARABIA will confiscate your passport and it will be locked away by your overlord and master MR S (we shall call him) FACT 2) You will be forced to complete a 3-month probationary period; if you run into trouble you will still have to complete it, even if a relative dies FACT 3) You will have to live in a house with complete strangers (this can be very stressful if you live and work together) This only applies to Yanbu and Jubail, in Dammam you get your own apartment.
WAYS TO GET OUT 1) Quietly complete your 3-month resignation period, don't make waves, don't complain, don't utter a word!! 2) Pay your overlord and master MR S X thousand riyals. I DID THIS. OR 3) Complete the contract in full (it has been done, a South African I knew in Yanbu stayed there for 4 yrs!)
Newsflash 13/05/06: some contracts have a 6-month resignation period!! If you are crazy enough to go, read through the contract he sends you very carefully. Take as long as you like. Your ass (and your sanity) are both on the line
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS: you may get coerced, intimidated or attacked by your students, you may even get attacked or threatened by your fellow teachers. YOU WILL GET TREATED LIKE *beep* BY IH MANAGEMENT. You may have a ball and none of this will happen to you. THIS IS JUST A STARK WARNING!! You need the right mindset to live in KSA. Good luck if you decide to go anyway, you'll need it
REGARDS
