Settle down at 30 Denise, and miss all the good stuff before the beginning of life? You want to have your last hurrah, don't you?
You are young, heck, last year you were still in your twenties! Keep thinking like that and you will be old.
Come to Tokyo, see some friends, visit some old haunts and get on the Peace Boat, life will take care of itself.

I certainly don't intend to roll over and play dead now that I am in my 30s! I am actually really enjoying being 30. It is a very versatile age. I still feel young and am still active and healthy, but I've had enough time and experience in this job to demand to be taken seriously. I know what I'm doing now!

I know there are a lot of negative connotations associated with settling down. I don't want those! I still plan on learning new things, seeing new places, etc., but from the day I finished grad school a few years ago, my dream was to live and work in San Francisco. I just didn't feel qualified enough at the time. Now I do, so now it's time to start looking.

I'm sure some of the Americans out there have read Dear Abby (although they may not admit it!). Sometimes people will write in and say things like, "I'm 60 years old and never went to university. I would like to go back, but I would be the oldest person in my classes, and I would be 64 when I finished!" Her response is usually something like, "And how old will you be in four years if you don't go to university?" I've applied the same sort of philosophy to myself. It will take a few years to build up a full-time schedule in a US university--starting with part-time jobs at a few different places. I can either go back now and get started, get my foot in the door, and maybe have what I want within a few years, or I can keep floating around the world, eventually returning, and still have to get started working towards what I want.

Thank you for the kind words, Michael! And Sweetsee--of course there's more good stuff to be had in life! (Maybe not in Tokyo, though...) My daily life, career, and future are bright enough that I really don't need a last "hurrah". My goal is to have every day be a mini-hurrah. There is fun to be found everywhere, if you're willing to look for it!

I was on the website for employment with Disney Cruise ships and they give alot of info but not where you apply for a job? Does anyone know? Do you have to go through an agency? Has anyone ever worked for them?
