There was an editorial today (May, 13) written by a Kiwi about her impression of Taiwan:

Her disregard for fact and base reporting p***ed some people off:

I think this journalist is an incompetent embarrassment to the New Zealand Herald.

Well it apparently pissed off one person. But apart from being an obviously boring piece of writing I don't see anything particularly wrong with it. But of course we do need to blame someone. It helps those slow news days fly by.

Two wheeling commuters with hankerchiefs around their mouths IS how most people get to work. Perhaps a misguided comment but an equally misguided retort.

Other things like the Cantonese-Taiwanese distinction is just sloppy work. Same for the history lesson.

And as a retort to the retort. How exactly did New Zealand attack France from supplying terrorists? By letting the terrorist go back home only to be given an immediate promotion. Does anyone have the facts of this episode?

That is referring to an event that happened in the 1980's. France WAS the terrorist. It attacked and bombed the "Rainbow Warrior" - an environmental ship in NZ that was protesting the French nuclear tests on Mururoa (did I spell that right?) an island in the South Pacific.

I think the review of Taiwan by the journalist in question was unneccessarily ugly. It is ambiguously referring to someone passing gas from the very beginning. Of course that is going to get a reaction from people. I can't believe it was posted on The New Zealand Herald's website.

What appears to be a review of Taiwan's tourism industry, is little more than a snide jab in the ribs at Taiwan.

Yes. France was the terrorist.

From the Johnny Neihu article:
Quote:
while the much more recently late David Lange led the charge against nuclear-powered or nuclear-armed US Navy ships from stopping by for a visit, and attacked France as a terrorist state after the sinking of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior in Auckland.

I meant how did David Lange attack France? Verbally?

Quote:
Prime Minister David Lange condemned France today for having ordered its agents to sabotage the Greenpeace protest ship Rainbow Warrior in Auckland Harbor. He demanded that France name those responsible for the attack. Mr. Lange told reporters that New Zealand had been vindicated by France's admission that its agents had carried out the July 10 attack. He called the attack ''a sordid act of international state-backed terrorism.''
