Here I was thinking it was an international affair. But, it's only celebrated on this day in Mexico and Colombia. The rest of the world marks it on other days.

It was last month here. Got a coffee cup, a weird pen holder, and many sloppy embraces.

Also had a student tell me that he thinks it's hypocritical that teachers get one "appreciation day," and the rest of the time are underappreciated, underpaid, and not given the respect they deserve. Idea

Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, no?

No Teacher's Day in Japan, surprisingly.

I do think May 15th is Teacher's Day in Korea if my memory serves me right. The day stands out for me since it is my birthday. Very Happy

Happy birthday on Monday Gordon, in case I forget.
How old are you getting to be? Ever forget?

I just figured out this evening that I have been
incorrectly stating my age. Seems I am still 45 but
for whatever reason I have been saying 46 for as
long as I can remember, which seems to be a lot
these days, you know how the Japanese are about age,
hardly a day goes by without someone asking.

Anyway, life begins at 40 and sorry to blab on.

In Thailand, there are 2 Teacher's Day celebrations.

The government holiday is held on 16 January.

The traditional ceremony is called Wai Kru,

and is held throughout Thailand in June.

I attended a Wai Kru a couple years ago;

damn near brought a tear to my eye.

Click on the link above to see why.

They really make a big deal of it.

The flower arrangements are amazing!

Turkey has a teachers' day too(November I think) It celebrates the Republic's first teacher. No prizes for guessing who that is.
