| I told you, I am a performing monkey. Reading is no substitute for experience in any profession. |

Most teacher training degrees also have pratical periods - I had to do a 3 and 6 month stint - not all classroom Frank, but as an expert on teacher training degrees I thought you would have known that And of course I agree with you a, monkey which has been allowed to mingle in the native classrooms for a few months - and of course one with a good nature, one that doesn't bite and one that doesn't demand too many bananas - will always be welcomed by many of our Chinese overlords - yikes they don't like those stick by their principles, I know what I'm doing pros - no they'll take a monkey any day - less boat rocking and more getting on with the job of attracting an audience and pulling in the dough |

My feeling about discipline is that , if you show your students you are really interrested in their learning , you won't have problems . I have found the most difficult class to teach here in China is the multi lingual class . The students are coming from affluent families . The father works long hours and the mother is busy spending his money . They hire people to teach their kids at home . The kids have everything but are angry . They have everything but the parents love and time . So you throw a bunch of these kids together and you find them striking out at each other and the teachers .
Hang in there Roger I think you are the perfect person for this group . I have always found that my first impressions of students were wrong .
Maybe like In Time says ," You should step back and find a way to make it a more students centered classroom ." Try working the back of the class and the corners . Get them up on the blackboard . |

| In a purely commercial exericse, if you "tick off" one customer (ie. one child/parent) you are "gone" if a fresh face is available. |

Speaking only for the money, yes?
BUT...even for a P...who'd want to pay a P who looked down on the customer? And...THAT feeling/perception can affect/infect performance, can't it? Affective filter rises, but not the pleasure principle, eh? |
As the Broadway phrase goes:
| Quote: |
| The show must go on... |
People generally don't pay gor the feeling/perception of being looked down on...wherher by ESOL conversation teacher...or other performer
The ART...is...the SHOW must go on... |
