The "what to pack question" got me thinking, why cant you just order what you want on-line. What impediments exist to stop someone from ordering online and recieving the product in the expat's current location.

-Is it lack of credit card or acceptable type of payment?
-Is it Postal Service not validating a foreigner's adress?
-Is it Postal Service being unreliable and possibly losing or stealing package?

It would just seem to me everyone could cut down on packing toiletries and medication by ordering online. And everything else for that matter.

Hopefully, you didn't read my original response. The short answer is we're not in Seattle anymore.

IMO the international shipping costs would stop me. That would be a waste of money.

I did it in Japan because I could afford it. For things that I ordered from the US, it was no problem paying with a credit card. For things ordered from within Japan, they had their own payment system that I eventually got the hang of...

I don't do it now because it's too expensive given my current salary and I don't trust the postal system down here. My dad sent me a CD with photos from our New Year's holiday (my folks flew down and visited Machu Picchu with me) and an extra memory stick for my camera, and I never got it. What a low, rotten thing to do--stealing someone's vacation photos! Evil or Very Mad

I'll guide you to the answer using the Socratic Method.

First question:

Where do you plan on working?
