|
|
My wife and I are moving from Bahrain to Sharjah in September. We've set up most of the particulars except the following:
Can anyone recommend a good gym for us to join? By "good" I mean free weights and no machines over 30 years old (I know that narrows down the selection a bit!) Hotels are o.k I guess.. Any suggestions? |

The long-established social centre for expats in Sharjah is The Wanderers. I'm pretty sure they have a gym, but you might well want to join it for other reasons as well. People will soon point you in the right direction once you get to Sharjah. |

Well, it's been a few years, but when I belonged to the Wanderers the equipment they had was mostly donated by expats leaving the country. If you are a gym rat, that Wanderers "gym" wasn't much to write home about. I recall a rickety treadmill, a stationary bike meant for home use, and a 5 part universal machine for weights. No free weights that I recall at that time, but this could have changed. The aerobics classes (taught by a member) took place in the library. The Wanderers was great for the pool, booze (only place in sharjah) and their chips. |

I lived on the corniche and belonged to Marabella club. This was a your typical hotel gym, but it sufficed. There were free weights, a few treadmills, stairsteppers (this is 1998), aerobic classes (average instructors), universal machines, great pools...This was a relaxing way to spend our weekends and after school. |
