Hello everyone, I am wondering what kind of job prospects one might expect to find with an MA in TESOL? I have been in Korea for six years, two years in a high school, one year with a company and the rest of the time mainly with language schools and various part time work, so I have lots of experience. I am looking into completing my Masters in TESOL in 2008 and I realize things can change dramatically between now and then. I am just trying to get an idea of what to expect. For someone not certified to work in the primary or secondary school system, what kind of jobs can one expect to find? Are language schools the only other option even with an MA? I have been checking various sources and cannot seem to find any other job offers. If someone could direct me to a good link for work other than language schools or certified teaching jobs or any light you can shed on this at all would be greatly appreciated.

Where do you want to be working in five years? In what country and in what type of institution?

An MA in TESOL (or Applied Linguistics or similar field) can qualify you for certain jobs in higher education in the Middle East, Japan, the US, the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, and other places around the world. By "higher education" I mean junior colleges, community colleges, and some colleges and universities. It all depends on the country and educational system.

There are universities in HK that offer teaching jobs to those with MA in TESOL and/or MA in Applied Linguistics. It can't hurt to have a Ph.D. as well.
