Is this not a case of the pot calling the kettle black Mr. Bepsi? Three 'unforced errors' in one posting..............michtie me.

If your life in Romania is so wonderful, you encourage posters to invest or holiday there, then why oh why do you spend so much time on this page giving us your learned insights and also giving free reign to your grammatical pedantry?

I understood perfectly what the guy was on about................it would behoove us to remember that we're not all perfect and that this is an information and opinion exchange not a classroom.

Fell free to splap this one on the speill czech Shocked

I DO wish that there was a 'spell czech' on this board, but I think the biggest problem is proofreading... why is it that our brain wants to stick an apostrophe in front of every 's'??

BTW... pooreslteacher/crashartist... I had figured out that you were joking in the use of visa's in the second post (is it sarcasm?)... but too many here still think you are defending the indefensible as far as the teaching situation at these places that don't provide full work visas... bowing out of the thread may be your best option. Laughing

Peace is good...

Life of leisure...a few big real-estate investments paid off, so I have taken early retirement. Being the generous, altruistic soul that I am, I want to share my good fortune with others, not to mention my grammatical pedantry.

I wish!! Actually, I am sort of "enjoying" a brief period of enforced idleness, while having to spend long hours at my PC...so what better way to pass a happy hour than to poke around in here and gloat at all ye in KSA, not to mention annoy the hell out of people like AS. Very Happy I think I must be addicted to this forum!

Well, like some do, I could say it is "sarcasim", but basically they were typos, wihch aer soemtiems comon here. Embarassed

However, placing apostrophes (or even apostophes...sounds like some Greek philosopher) in plurals smacks of grammatical ignorance...a very bad example indeed in so-called English teachers' forums (fora?).

Interesting posting.

Check out www.iespell.com

If you want to spell check your posts. This download puts an 'abc over check mark' icon in the IE tool bar, allowing you to check any text inputs in any forum or the like. It allows you to change the language Am/Eng Brit/Eng and add words to the dictionary. Most important, it's free!

No offence intended, but some people do not know about this.

On the subject of proof reading, that someone brought up, it helps to read the post backward.

You can also try it while standing on your head. This does not really help but scares the living daylights out of the other people in the office, who are already convinced that you are a deranged psychopath.

I thought that was pretty creative. I'm not sure that I could have managed that. Laughing

I also taught my writing students the old read it backwards trick, but who has the time to mess about that on a message board. None of our posts are really all that important, are they?

Not to mention that it would take more than a spellchecker to get me to use IE. Shocked

What is it with IE. I have never used anything else and don't see a problem.

The fact that you have never used anything else explains all.

Download "Firefox" and try it out. You won't go back.

And if you really must use IE, then at least download one of the tabbed browser plugins.

Exactly!! Firefox is superior in every way... and free... no popups... tabbed browsing... most virus creators fixated on easy Microsoft attacks... did I mention no $@%# popups?

Free rein As in horses.

Arab Strap is proving the validity of Hartman's Law of Prescriptivist Retaliation, which states that "any article or statement about correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling is bound to contain at least one eror."

But Stephen, he WASN'T being a grammatical pedant, he was criticizing MY grammatical pedantry. Shocked He has no rite to do that!

I'm the grammatical pedant here, and I rarely make topographical errors.

I'm embarrassed that I missed "reign" though. How careless of me! It is a serious error, perhaps he should look up its meaning...spend more time poring "Reign" Laughing
