I was originally interested in teaching in Korea..but maybe I should just stick to my native homeland. Surprisingly there aren't many teaching opportunities as there are in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, etc. >.< There are not a lof of esl job banks for VN either....anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

from what i read, there are a lot of places in Vietnam. the thing is even if you apply for them oversea, they'll want you landed and ready there for the interview. i had inquired. there are tonnes of people already there, willing, or working. you see other places posted because they really have no choice but to post. i initially wanted to go to Vietnam, but opted for China.. first. i will go there within the year with a bit more experience.

1. There aren't a lot of places

2. Don't apply for work while overseas

3. There are not tonnes of people "willing or working"

4. No choice to post? About what?

haha, thanks.

posted i meant ads for teaching positions in small towns in other countries. they have to post these positions 'cause there are basically teachers who don't know where these places are, or that they even exist.

well, i just assumed this was the reason not a lot of Vietnamese schools post online, that there are already a lot of people who frequent Vietnam versus "where the hell am i now?" places. yes, i assumed.

i would have to agree with the above posters. it seems the market for foreign teachers in vietnam is small and getting smaller. competition for the few positions is getting bigger, while the salary per hour is getting smaller. think twice before making the commitment to teaching in vietnam

It's still possible to get a good job in Vietnam, but you really have to be here and it's getting harder all the time. SITC / SMTC closed down recently so all their teachers were out looking for jobs and several other small operations are suffering and having to close down. The good quality schools are still paying well and the best ones like the British Council have put their rates up recently to recruit and retain staff.

This time of year is high season so it's a good time to come here and get yourself established. Being here and getting known to other teachers can open doors.

If you have a Degree, a good Celta (generally not the others) and a couple of years experience teaching academic English then you are set. Work on acquiring these types of credentials and you will find yourself in high demand world-wide, including Vietnam.
