Justin Gatlin has been denied the world 100 metres record he had claimed at the Doha Super Grand Prix meeting last Friday in Qatar after a mistake in the reading of the result.

The American world and Olympic champion clocked a time of 9.76seconds in Doha which lowered the previous best, set by Asafa Powell 11 months earlier, by one hundredth of a second.

However, world governing body the International Association of Athletics Federations revealed this morning the 24-year-old actually ran 9.766secs and their regulations state that performance should have been manually rounded up to 9.77secs.

They have now adjusted Gatlin's mark which, pending ratification, will equal the Jamaican Powell's world record mark set last June in Athens.
Remind me. Where are the Asian games being held?

They have a lot of work to do before then. But the hotel next to the City Center are going up pretty nicely. Pretty tall now, about 15 stories?? Also the tower of the Khalifa Stadium is looking like it's going to be the tallest structure in Doha (before all the sky scapers are built that is).

Truth shouldn't come in the way of a good story, but with the best will in the world I can't let this one pass. Sorry DMB, but having once had the doubtful pleasure of working for a Swiss EFL organization, I am delighted to tell the world that it was Tissot (entirely Swiss-managed) that was responsible for both timing and rounding up and they must take the blame here. To their credit they have admitted as much.
