My Chinese wife informed me that from now on the 6000 RMB limit is raised to 50.000 RMB in order to accommodate the big spenders when they go overseas. It is nationwide, not just Shenzhen
For us it means that you no longer have to go to the BOC, with all the attendant hassles in order to get money back to your "home" account.
But you still need to change it first in HK dollars, then your own currency. |

Peter,
you were in NZ when this news broke, right?
I am not sure I know the full facts, but what I read a week ago was a little bit at odds with what you are saying.
I heard and read that CHINESE NATIONALS are now allowed to take out of the mainland up to 8000 US dollars, up from previously US$ 2000.
This change has been implemented with mainland tourists to HONG KONG in view; the old ceiling of RMB 6000 was widely criticised as inadequate, and with millions upon millions of Chinese now on the road to Hong KOng as individual tourists, the maximum ceiling had to be hiked.
It probably is true that we too can take more than RMB 6000 out of the country - but I have not read this anywhere so far.
Better check this with your bank! |
