I'm considering ordering a Mac online. The last time I posted about the almight Mac someone mentioned a way to get a discounted price. Something about a student discount or mentioning that you work as part of the education department? Meh, something like that.
If anyone can help me out then please reply. Other than Macs, does anyone know of any models that have good editing software for short films as well as the 'usual stuff'. Cheers! |

Many places like Sofmap sell sofrware etc at academic prices i,e discounts for students and educators. I dont think you can buy laptops etc on academic discount. Normally you have to show your student ID or the ID issued by your school or university. Not sure if you can buy like that over the internet though and being an eikaiwa teacher doesnt qualify.
Software usually has to be installed and doesnt come with the machine when you buy it.

Mac offer an educational discount. However theyre aware of the potential to scam this and ask for documentation of your educational status.
I bought a G4 whilst on my TEFL course and this wasnt enough to warrant the discount. Im not sure if being an ESL teacher gets you in the door either.

| We walked into the Sofmap near us and walked out with a Mac without dropping a dime--instant credit, check it. |

When I purchased my last PowerBook, I bought it on the apple.com site and did indeed get an educator's discount. Their requirements vary by country, I think. In the U.S., simply enrolling in a full-time course or being an instructor will get you the discount (which is substantial).
Software discounts for educators are also possible on apple.com. But you can often get even better educator/student discounts at the following site:
www.academicsuperstore.com
Proof of enrollment or instructor status is required for the latter discount. I don't know if non-U.S. educators can take advantage of it. |

| As I mentioned to someone on another thread, Apple Japan's English tech support is awesome... Just give them a call and ask them directly what you need to do to get an educational discount and they will tell you. I did just that a few months ago, but I hesitate to give you the answer I was given, as my situation may differ from yours... Best way is to get it straight from the horse's mouth. |

Good question.... Wife wants to go hiking... Me? I wouldn't mind grilling some steaks. Don't have my new BBQ yet but that's OK -- still have a regular BBQ.
I'll also (hopefully) watch some movies on my new TV. Few days ago I succefully bought a 36" Sony Trinitron from Yahoo Auctions (Japan). It arrives this evening! I can hardly wait! 
Aside from that, I play piano at church (as usual) and reeellllaaaaaxxxxxx........  |

Sorry to stray here...sounds good Jim. How much and what kind of TV do you do? Saw Apollo Xlll for the first time last night, cool. Seen Constant Gardener, Walk the Line, Brokeback? Fed up with Sky Perfect, cable too, but need to switch back to cable probably.
Costco on Sunday, rather be going to a matsuri in nearby Hachioji, in the rain it looks like. That'll make me feel better that I can't go. Little early for typhoon, but that's what I heard. No sun here in two weeks. There?
Just back from the sweet little Indonesian place at the next station, fried ice-cream to die for. Beers to die for as well I noticed, Guiness draft campaign on. Be lying if I didn't admit that I could see myself picking up when mate's first draft arrived, mouth watering, the whole thing. Close one.

Back on topic....
I bought my iBook G4 laptop at the Nagoya Apple store and asked for and recieved a educational discount (@7%) by showing my gaijin card that shows my place of employment (a school) and filling in a form.
I also got the discount when I bought an iPod. |
