[I've been reading various descriptions of Taiwanese students and folks in general, and it seems exactly like China. Low social skills, talk at you, rather than with you, usage of "laowai" comes in many flavours. Passive-aggressive would be an easy label for Chinese, and I see it used on this forum.
Anything that would be unique to the Taiwanese ?

I should also add, that in China, the complimentary language is often used regardless of real feelings. An example would be a student saying your wonderful, then running to management to complain about your poor teaching.

It's just as true as saying:

"All Western students and folks in general have great social skills, talk over you and are really arrogant and racist towards anyone that isn't white. Usage of "racial slurs" comes in many flavours. Arrogant-obnoxious would be an easy label for Westerners, and I see everyone around the world using it.

I should also add, that in Western countries, arrogant language is often used regardless of it's impact on people's feelings. An example would be a student saying "F*ck you" then claiming to management that it's because of your poor teaching."

The point of my post was that it's silly to make such widespread generalizations. Just as any Westerners would be offended (I am Western) by that diatribe, so would many INDIVIDUAL Chinese people who have INDIVIDUAL personalities and perspectives very different from the comments you made to start this thread.

I know it's easy for us, as outsiders, to place Chinese people in a little box that we thing is easily explained. It's just not that easy. Western countries and people are complex and people are very different.... you find all kinds... the Chinese are no different.
