Thank you saint.
A thread about student loans just seems a important thread to start. Surprised I haven't seen more of them on this website. |

I thought it was obvious from my post that I had not paid back my student loan-that is why I know so much about it.
Of course you can and should defer it but where do you get the idea that working for English Crap you will get things like pay slips? You will not get pay slips and letters will either not arrive or arrive late. Try deferring year after year when the miserable school owners and admin staff won't cooperate. Inflation is added every year and if you miss the deferrment deadlines the debt collectors take over-letters much more often than once a year and to family members. |

Well, I doubt many ppl pay back the student loan in full. 30 quid per month for a debt of 16000 is hardly workable haha.
You can chose to pay as much as you like above 30 per month but I doubt I will be volunteering for that.
I'll see how I go. |

I have bucket-load of student loans, one of which has been written off as I had deferred it for 8 years. I think it had the 16,000 pay off clause. They soon reduced this as no one was paying them off. At one point all the loans were sold to NatWest I believe.
I remember they were taking a small amount from my paycheck in London even though I was earning less than the limit for not paying it back. As long as I'm abroad I'll keep deferring it as it seems they'll be written off in the end. |

There most definitly IS interested attched to student loans. It's gone from being tied to inflation, to being somewhere between 4 and 6% now. |

They can put as much interest as they like on it-they won't get a penny from me. |

Okay, You've got a student loan, let's make it clear that it is a UK loan from Students Loans Directs with its own rules. Have youy tried asking them what the rules are? They are the most likely people to know! Personally, I've paid off an undrgraduate loan and am now paying off a post graduate loan for qualifying as a teacher here in the UK, could I avoid repaying this by working abroad - yes but why would I want to? If I work in 'approved' education here I get my loan repaid but this dosen't really matter.
You cannot live in the UK for less than 15000 pounds a year and living abroad may not be right for you - keep your options open, you may need to return to the UK yet. Do you have family? If so, where are they? Try to think ahead. |

You can live on less than 15000 - lots of people have to but you need either to live at home or have paid off the mortgage at my end of the age spectrum!
