| Every teacher working in any context in Japan should join a union. You will almost certainly need them for advice at least at some point. |

If memory serves, those 4 years of contracts were not the same. Weren't you there 2 years as an ALT and then the school decided to hire you directly as a full-timer? Different kettle of fish than being there on the same renewed contract for 4 years.
As for not knowing why you are not renewed, don't you think it has something to do with your attitude and constant swimming against the stream to do things in your own western way, rather than working within the system? You've posted countless times on that. No idea? Look in a mirror. |

Number one, please use my name correctly.
Number two, Paul described my sistuation quite accurately. I had been at the high school as a non-tenured full-timer (jokin) for 3 years. Foreigners and Japanese have to leave after that unless they were accepted as rare (and I stress that word) tenured teachers.
A little contrary to something Paul wrote,

...mine was extremely conscientious. Other teachers (Japanese and foreign) went to him to beg to let me stay, and he said he would like to. However, it would have been against school policy, and he had broken school policy a few years earlier trying to keep a teacher like me, only to get reamed out by the school administration (and the teacher lost his job anyway). Kocho and my kyoto-sensei tagteamed a couple of beautiful letters of recommendation, scoured the city for openings, found a couple, put in a good word for me beyond the letter, attended my interviews, etc. Kocho asked kyoto-sensei every morning whether I'd heard news about any job applications for about 3 months. They were very sad to have to let me go. So, what Paul wrote is not always necessarily the case. |

Sorry about that Glenski, didn't mean anything by messing about with your name. Which reminds me of a movie review I heard on Saturday morning. If you rearrange the letters in Da vincci code you get:
"c da vidi" or something like that.
Yes, I would say that your school took good care of you, as they should. The first high school I worked for was the oldest in Tokyo. It closed when I was there and the kocho-sensei was kind enough to line me up with another school. Those are the guys you need, the old-timers who know the other higher-ups.
Spoke to our former-former principal, who hired me. He was actually an English teacher and really nice guy, we got on great and he said that he will make some calls for me but felt that because he is retired, he might not have the pull.

Wasn't aware we were going to judge anything, let alone would,
if we could.
Ah Glenski yes, it was two years part time and three one-year full time contracts.
As to your perceived notion of my work performance, well that is what it is, isn't it? Yes, there were some waves along the way, nothing too major, unruly students and spineless homeroom teacher fiasco two years ago. Nothing else, rather exemplary actually.
Anyway, the issue now is what will I be doing one year from now?
Have any data on redundant private high school teachers? |

I'm not the only one here with a "perception" of your work performance.
Besides, you are complaining about losing a contract, now understanding why (despite working here for 15 years!!), and you are 7 months pregnant. If you really don't know why you're not going to be renewed, I suggest standing sideways in front of a mirror. No offense, ok? I'd recalled you said you were pregnant a while ago, but I was sensitive enough not to bring this up because for all I knew, you may have lost the child. Now I know otherwise. Think about your situation and where you live. |

When the day comes that you make a coherent post, I might post it in the positive thread. It seems that you come here, play the happy child of a 1960's flower child and think the world is all rosey with carebears in the air instead of realizing that people come here for information. @Glenski: You're too kind. My guess would be, based on the babble that Sweetsee usually spouts out, that even the Japanese people at her school can recognize a basketcase, and couldn't be happier that the 3 years plus 2 part-time years are coming to an end. I'm guessing there's probably a 50% chance that her coworkers haven't even noticed she's pregnant. Based on what she contributes here....nevermind...it's obvious.

Regarding my contract, they must be getting a dispatch cheapie. Who knows, who cares?
I know my posts can be kookie, just having fun here, trying to spread some love. Trying to put some heart and soul into things.
How about those stats on redundancy? |

I'm aware of the pregnancy, but you've never actually said in so many words that YOU (as opposed to your partner) are the one who is pregnant.

What a cop out. You spout about your personal life all the time, random thoughts, funerals, your school, what your crazy classroom beliefs, the fact you are pregnant and then you back track.....Because of your inability to communicate in a consise manner, the question comes from azarashi sushi, "Are you actually a woman or a man?" and you are offended by him asking?
