Don't make me laugh... UAEU is cutting budgets right left and centre. Especially staff budgets, research budgets, travel budgets etc (did they ever get the pay-rise in tertiary education?) Meanwhile inflation is rising. However there always seems to be money for building projects in the UAE. |

Yeah, unlimited funds that go into the pockets of the fatcats that own the construction companies building all the stupid projects here. 100 billion dollar resorts and apartment complexes in AD and Dubai etc. Who can afford to live in them, certainly not teachers on their paltry housing allowances.
These shortsighted budget policies will sooner or later turn around and bite them in the a**.
Or maybe they don't want to educate the masses, the masses might start thinking and asking too many questions about why some are so rich and some not. |

So does anyway know are any of these High school positions going ahead. UAEU has deferred according to an earlier post but I notice ZU is still advertising so are they still hiring for these jobs? |

It seems some schools are operated by the Education Zone rather than the Edication Council and these still might go ahead, though the deal's not signed yet. |

Exactly the point... they are rolling in money right now and have been cutting education budgets for years. so shortsighted. (and typical of governments everywhere...) You could almost understand it when oil was $10 a barrel, but it is ludicrous now that oil is $70 a barrel.

There is still money for education but it goes on the construction projects for the reason that Tabing identified. Snazzy new campus under construction at UAEU but as a result reduced budgets for staff. Academic City Sharjah, all those French style lamp-posts (etc) but deteriorating staff terms and conditions in some institutions. The trouble with human resources projects such as the High School one is that they offer fewer opportunities for fat cats to get fatter. Maybe they'll replace it with a classroom construction project, or multi-media labs... |
