And I mean drink to get to some level of feeling: drunk, buzzed, tipsy or whatever you want to call the feeling you need.

Keep it simple. Just check the box that applies to you. Even if you're a special case ("recovering" or whatever), or you have to drink to please your boss, or you can't figure out if drinking during a certain time of day counts or doesn't count, etc., etc.

Just check the box that shows how often you drink.

If you're still too confused about what situations apply, then just don't vote. But I'd love to see your story in the message thread. Cheers!

Dear WorkingVaca,
You've got my vote - gave it up completely over 2 years ago and haven't missed it at all since then. I wish stopping smoking were as easy, but that ole debbil Nick O' Teen is ( for me ) a much tougher habit to kick.
Regards,
John
P.S. As a mitigating factor with respect to the cigs, at least I don't ( like Bubba Bll Clinton ) inhale.

Welcome back johnslat!

I also never imbibe of the stuff. Never have, never will. Just a personal choice.

When I was in Cambodia, I drank heavily. There were good reasons for it-- I make no apology. That was light compared to what some others drank.

When I was placed in the Reverse Culture Shock Unit upon my return, it got worse for a long time, but now it seems better. Not ideal, but better.

Someone said to me the other day, "The Truth shall make you free," you know, the old liberal arts platitude. I replied, "No it doesn't, it drives you to drink!" Laughing

I've just got to say that for me there is a BIG difference between "drinking" and "getting drunk." I drink socially on weekends, with friends, etc., but I never drink to get drunk; nor have I ever been drunk enough to do the crazy sorts of things that people tend to do when they've had too much. (And no, I'm not a puritan! I just know when to stop.)

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy" -Benjamin Franklin

I usually have a beer a day, mostly just to relax and for health benefits.

On the weekend, I'll have several more

I will go out and drink maybe 2xs a wk (if i have the time!). And sure i usually do get a buzz going. Otherwise I might have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner, which is for health reasons and does not exceed 2. I feel that as long as my drinking (socializing) time doesn't adversely affect my work or life it is ok.

There have been times in my life were I drank about 4xs a wk. Different stages and reasons. I don't regret those times. Learned a lot about myself and others at those times. But don't want to return to those times either! Shocked just getting too old to put up with all those hangovers!

Not a teetotaller nor designated daily drinker (DDD) now. though I have to admit when I go on vacation one of the two happens (they seem to alternate!). And if it wasn't so expensive and there were more interesting people to go out with here I might go out and drink more often, but it is and there aren't so.... here I am!

I drink almost every other day, and when I have one of my days, it is dry red wine, or with cheese, it would have to be white wine. Beer only when I am really thirsty, and to top it off.

But I am never tipsy nor oiled. NOthing rivals the feel-good feeling after a decent meal washed down with a decent wine; being drunk might put your partner off, and certainly causes you more discomfort than playing football on a sunny and sweltering Guangdong afternoon!
