you get paid more for nights and sundays? is that some kind of law in japan? i know we have such laws in aust that says workers have to be paid more on weekends and nights but i didn't think they had the same in japan? |

| 255000 Yen is AEON's base salary. There are regional cost-of-living allowances that get tacked on as well. |

The Osaka MM goes all night with one shift starting about 10pm
If you work the graveyard shift you will get extra pay.
If you work hours in excess of a 40 hour week or 8 hours a day you get overtime pay of 1.25 times regular pay by law.

Answer
The maximum hours of work that you can be made to work is 40 over six days. Anything over this must be voluntary and even voluntary overtime work has a limit which is set by ordinance. This ordinance allows for overtime of up to 5 hours per week.
Work over forty hours must be paid at a rate of 125% of your basic salary and all work between 10pm and 5am must be paid at 135%. Work on your designated rest day (one day per week) must also be paid at the rate of 135%. Employers must also have what is called an article 36 Agreement which is signed by either a trade union or a workers' representative. Without this agreement, which must be signed by either a trade union representing over 50% of the work force or a workers' representative, overtime, even voluntary, is not allowed. This agreement not only sets the amount of overtime but also sets how overtime is calculated (i.e. monthly, weekly, yearly). Please see the section on workers' representatives.
Furthermore, if you work over the number of hours stated in your contract, but less than 40 hours, you should be paid for this time ( though not at 125%). In recent complaints filed by the union at the Labour Standards we have come to understand that teachers whose working hours start and/or end at the same time as their first and/or last lesson may be entitled to overtime pay. |

how late is the typical night shift though? is it generally past 10pm? that's quite late for an eikaiwa to be open, isnt it? |

| OP: 215000 is awful. Many job ads specify that propspective teachers must hold a degree but will be willing to hire you without one if you already have a visa. You should be able to get a dependants visa as your spouse is Japanese. I would hold out for 250000 even without a degree, although you will have to play up your teachng/coaching experience (sports/martial arts/anything) in your application. |

wait wait. before you say this, let's hear what kinda hours brooke will be working first.... is the work F/T? P/T? 40hrs a week? 25 hrs? holidays? |

| In case you're curious I think the starting salary for a nova teacher now is about 210,000 (it might be a little less because now the work week is only 37 hours as compared to 40 hours.) With your allowances and what not it will probably go up to about 275,000 a month. |

| I forget what my actual base salary was at NOVA. I was on a 40 lesson/week schedule. With my shift and regional allowances, I was netting about 270,000 - after probation. |

Ill be looking at Full Time work. Do you think it would be best for me to go and then line up a job?
Im really confused.
I dont mind working weekends and evenings. But only if the pay equals the effort.
Do you think I can get more than 215,000 on WHV? |
