I am heading to Japan in mid June to work for a year with an english school. I start work before the time it would take to process my working visa, so my employer said to get a working holiday visa and when I arrive she will sponsor me there and upgrade my visa to a working visa.

The consulate here in Canada told me that the working holiday visa is primarily for HOLIDAY. Yet there is a section on the application asking what I plan to do for the first, second, ...sixth month in Japan, and if I have arranged employment in Japan, along with details of it.

--- Should I say I have a job and list the true monthly salary, working hours per day, and period of employment? Or leave it blank? Or fill in half my monthly salary and say part-time and say "as yet to be determined" for my length?

--- On the application form, length of stay in Japan...again, do I say 1 year or less? Exclamation

I don't want to be denied. Im a Canadian and am told they wont be hard on me. So...tell the truth as I think I should? Orwill that knowingly get me rejected?

It's easy. Don't tell them you have a job lined up. Just that you will look for a part-time job and that you want to travel Japan too. The spirit of the working holiday visa is to travel and work, not just work. Give them what they want. The important part is to have the funds they want to see, have all the paperwork that they request and don't give too much information, which is what you are asking about now. You should be fine.

Put that you plan to work your first few months, then travel for a month, work a few more months and travel. Don't say you have a job, monthly salary or anything. Say you will be looking for a job when you arrive. Just say that you want to stay a year.

How detailed should I be for my 6 month itinerary? Can I say for 2 months Nagano, 2 months Okinawa, then 2 months back in Nagano? Will they scrutinize and analyze my travel decisions?

Seems straight forward but Im nervous about being rejected. Though this is not hard to get.

Just BS on your itinerary. Most people do and no one will check whether you actually carry out that schedule. All they want to know is you will not spend 60 hours a week teaching at one place for the whole time you are there and use WHV as a backdoor replacement for a work visa.

Simplex,

If you need help to get your creative juices flowing, just read the itinerary for a 3 week tour of Japan with any tour company and plan to stay in each place for longer than the 1 or 2 nights the tour would. Then you can strategically stop in Nagano for 2 months to earn some money and start "your tour" again. Wink

They are not going to follow you around the country or expect a postcard! Like Paulh said, it is just BS.

Happy travels!
