| I have recently been offered a position in Oman and based on what I've read on this site, as well as some others, their offer seems pretty standard. What I don't understand are a couple of the terms in the salary breakdown - what is a rarity allowance and what is an academic allowance? |

I'd guess that they are places where they are able to justify giving a person more money than the official scales. Both tend to be given at the PhD level, not for TEFL teachers. If there is one thing we are not, it is 'rare.'
