Well 2 % is better than nothing but it is not keeping up with current inflation. Housing increase is good but absolutely necessary to keep up with the rising rents in Abu Dhabi and unlike other institutions here the PI does not have a housing officer to help newcomers find accommodation or to negotiate rents. Then you can't move for three years after which you need permissiom from ADNOC - if you are lucky. So make sure you are happy with your place before you sign the lease.
As for promotion prospects well that is a long shot for most Foundation teachers as the criteria is weighted heavily in favor of those doing research with very few teaching hours and most Foundation teachers are too busy teaching and will be even busier next year. |

And yet, oddly enough, when I came to the PI the housing officer helped me find a place to live.
In 2004 the allowance for grade 15 employees was raised from Dh 90K to Dh 110K. Now, in 2006 it's being raised to Dh. 130K. I think that that is keeping track with inflation.
PI salaries are on the ADNOC salary grid. If they wanted to reduce salaries, they would have to adjust everybody to a new (lower) job classification in ADNOC, a proposition I find very unlikely. Management is attempting to get the upper end of the salary ranges expanded, because there are people they would like to recruit but can't currently pay enough.
And about the 2-5% annual raises, they are not intended to be inflation compensation, but merit raises.
SOmebody in this thread talked aout raising the price of petrol 75%. That isn't true, it went from Dh 4.75 to Dh 6.25 - an increase of less than 30%. Why so much misinformation? |
