good point about simply switching channels. in my case, as i watch next to zero free to air japanese tv, i don't know what all the respective channels are called. with the schedule you just posted up, are they all free to air channels on normal (not satellite) tv? i.e TBS, Asahi, NTV, M51 Fuji etc etc. ?? i just know channels as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc on my remote control
if these are all free to air channels then no worries at all.
can someone let me know this? cheers |

No feathers ruffled here... But when it comes to World Cup soccer I start to get real ornery when my live viewing schedule is threatened. I want to have all the information and many options open to me. And it's good to know that we will be able to watch live games via alternative means.
Anyway, for what it's worth...
1. I'm sending my complaint letter anyway (I haven't mailed it yet so I think I'm NOT going to c.c. it to anyone... But I do want Sky to get a wakeup call).
2. Upon close examination of the NHK schedule, it seems that we won't need ANY other channel (like TBS or Asahi) to get our game on -- BS-1 is broacasting almost all of them live (I'm compiling an English schedule as we speak). However, the schedule posted on page 1 of the thread is good too -- for those who don't have access to BS-1.
3. My offer still stands -- if anyone needs any extra advice or help in getting and setting up BS-1, please PM me -- I may be able to help.
4. Because most of this will likely be broadcast in Japanese, I wonder if Matchcast will be able to provide adequate live commentary and coverage during the game.... Check the FIFA website -- sounds like the matchcast thing is going to be excellent if you have your computer (with Internet connection) in the same room as your TV. |

That's when a baby monitor comes in handy. Have listened to plenty of Canucks games from the dinner table, much to the delight of my wife. |

Um.... They are part of any cable package.... And you may get some of them with Sky (TBS I think)...
But free-to-air? Results will vary from area to area. Where I live, I can't get channels for crap, even with an antenna... Around here I get 2 NHK channels (one worse than the other in the way of quality), the local prefectural broadcast company, and one other -- maybe TBS... Not sure -- I'd have to spend a lot more money on antenna than what I'm willing to -- and it was cheaper to pay 3,000 yen for a used BS dish at a recycle shop...
But if you can get away with just a TV and an el-cheapo antenna, give-er. Consider yourself lucky |

Not a pain at all.
The affiliates you mentioned are all free channels. As for which affiliate is on which channel will depend on your area.
Don`t know about M51 cuz I haven`t heard of it. |
