I've read Doreen's post regarding the homestay with Hector's family. I will most likely be staying with them for the first few weeks in July. I am taking spanish classes at Intercultura. It usually takes Hector a few days (at least) to reply to my emails. I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this family. I know they put up other students, travelers etc. If so, did they pick you up from the airport on arrival? How was your experience?
thanks,
Brian |

I am staying at a home stay just outside of Heredia. Its 15 mins on the bus to the centre. Its a liitle out of the centre but if you wish to settle into the real Costa Rican life this is ideal.
The family are so nice and the lady (Hannia) is very thoughtful and makes you feel at home.
The house is typical Costa Rican and the food provided is wonderful and typical.
If you would like more details PM me or contact Hannia on - [email protected]
Hannia also has apartments to let in the Heredia area if you are looking for long term rent.

Hey,
I stayed with Hector and Zenaida for a little more than a month last Aug-Sept. I would recommend staying with them. It is a safe, clean place to use as a jumping off point to Heredia or the nearby towns. It is centrally located and the food is pretty good. Hope this helps, Ben |

Hi,
I lived with Zeneida's for about 4 months. She and her family are both extremely nice and I highly recommend it. You really don't have to worry about anything (food, laundry, furniture, sheets, pillow, etc is provided), which is ideal when first arriving in a new place. Heredia, the city is awesome. I honestly think there is no better place to live in CR. Everything is convenient: parks, gyms, the pool, airport, restaurants, markets, shops, a movie theatre, etc. It is not a very touristy town so you interact with mostly ticos on a day-to-day basis. It is also very close to San Jose, 20 minutes bus rides, buses run every 4-5 minutes. And perhaps the best part, one of the best universities in the country is there, which means that there are a lot of attractive women everywhere. You are also close to quite a very bars and clubs. There are more in San Jose, but it is nice to be able to walk to 10 different bars in your own town. My only suggestion is that if you choose to live at Z's, you try to make any suggestions/demands/needs made clear the first few days. She will be the most accomodating to your needs when you first arrive (e.g. some of the mattresses are rather sponge-like). I also experienced another homestay which was excellent, but very different (in Heredia as well). If you have other questions, message me.
PS I worked teaching English there and can try to answer your questions regarding that. |
