I've been accepted to do a month long teaching program in China through OIECS. ( www.oiecs.com www.oiecs.com/travel/html . Do you guys have any opinions? I'm getting close to the contractual stuff and am wanting to make sure I'm making the right decision!

The website doesn't work for me. Sometimes we can give you adivce if you tell us more about the situation. Do you sense anything funny? Pay/hours etc. Are they flying you to China to work for a month? What will you do if they forget to pay you after you've worked for them?
Just some thoughts |

Thanks Saint. I don't really sense anything funny, except there have been some hiccups in communication. After they got my application materials and accepted me, the coordinator wrote to me and told me to send my other stuff, without clarifying...
Anyhow, the setup is, they'll fly me there to teach for about a month, provide housing and food, but no pay. They had another version where you pay your own airfare, but they'd provide three trips. I figure I can do the trips on my own.
They've explained most of it pretty well - 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, age ranges vary. I'm not 100% sure what city it'll be (I'm pretty sure Beijing).
I fixed the links, so you can view their site if you want. Here's a link put up here that I just found. http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/china/index.cgi?read=15821 -- fixed it to the right one.

30 hours a week for no pay? Are you crazy? If not then you sure as hell will be when you finish that first month! |

Considering they provide flight to and from for only a month, 3 meals a day 7 days a week, housing, transportation, and a trip, I don't see it as that big of an issue.
Anyhow, can anyone offer advice on the program? |

Okay than, can you suggest a program that will pay my way there and around, have no associated fees (there was no appli fee), pay for meals and room and provide a weekend trip that will ALSO include a salary for a month of work? Yeah, I haven't seen any either. |

I've seen the add. I think my advice would be, if you have any queries ask the company but if they don't reply then start to wonder. I am hoping the more experienced ESL teachers here might be able to tell you what to look out for and whether this place seems legit-c'mon guys lets help out! |

I don't know of a program as such, but I do know an agency who would probably offer you a better deal. They are called 'New Times International' based in Shijiazhuang, close to Beijing. They have an add here on daves http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/china/index.cgi?read=15918 , and their reputation is very good.
I would recomend you e-mail them and see what they can offer you before signing up for a scheme such as the one you are enquiring about. |

Let me state again that I have been in contact with them personally, so not all of the info stated on their site is 100% correct/straight forward. They either provide three trips OR airfare, there are NO fees associated (they provide airport transport and all of that). If I get exploited for a free trip, I'm fine. It's not a financial issue, but I would like the experience, good or bad. I agree, if I had to pay, I would just go there on my own, but I don't.
The position is either in Beijing or Tianjin. I read the posting correctly thank you, but also have been getting information from the person coordinating this, not like the details are that important to you guys anyhow - it would be ME that would be going, and I've got all of the above figured out. I came here to find out if anyone knew anything about OEICS, not to have to disect the information and repeat myself over and over. I appreciate your guys' input, but again, I already know the details.
I'm assuming the answer to my original question is - no, none of you know about the program.
Okay, reading back, I guess I didn't really state that I'd had some stuff clarified already. I thought I did say that, or maybe I just thought it'd been assumed since I'd been accepted. Oh well, no biggie. |
