| Arrogance of students is trumped by ignorance of teachers. |

So how does one qualify as part of a culture? If of mixed nationality, which culture does one belong to? Both?? neither?? ... does it depend on length of time within a cultural group?? Knowledge of the cultural group??If one ups sticks and moves to another country, when, dan lawrence, does one start belonging to that culture .. does it matter how old one is?? ... and if one can never 'belong', can one never have a knowledge of that culture??
Oh .. and can not teachers verify, with students from the same culture as the student whose behaviour is deemed arrogant, if indeed the behavior is considered arrogant by that culture ...

Didn't you say it was arrogant to talk of the arrogance of students ... if so, using your formulaic language for empty truths we can also say ... it is ignorant to talk of the ignorance of teachers ...

This kind of comment usually comes from someone who knows not of what he speaks.

Students from Riyadh. The differences between Saudi students from different parts of the country are striking.
The sterotypes about cold, arrogant xenophobic Riyadhis are TRUE. |

Having asked where the most arrogant students come from, it is only fair to ask where do most arrogant teachers come from?
I'd say from Britain. For some mistaken reason, they think the world wants to speak English, because...Britain... |

Arrogance in ELT students only or can we expand this to encompass all students....in all countries or is this limited to those we have taught?
Israeli kids were the worst I ever dealt with, while Korean kids I liked better as they were less pushy.Polish students were by far the most motivate and even when not motivated were by far the best cheats and excuse makers I came across. |

.....from wealthy backgrounds.
This is why I get a bad impression of every corner of the world here. Nearly all of the students here come from the third world and have no idea what the real world is like. A lot of them are good people, but all of them are arrogant regardless of what their passport says. I would say rich people from the 3rd world often think they're somehow above the law, so when they come here they often get into trouble.... |

There is a level of arrogance in all nationalities I've come across. People generally suffer from the disease called nationalism. Most want to believe that God has set foot on their soil and speaks their angelic language. Their toilet paper is softer; their condoms are extra large; their women have angel wings; their sun is sunnier; their poor are rich and their rich are richer.
Most of all most of them have gouged their eyes out Oedipal style to never see the utter and complete hellholes most of them come from. |
