I have been offered a few positions with Shane English Schools in multiple locations. I am seriously considering one in Fengshan. Does anybody know anything negative about Shane or have had bad experiences? What about the pay? IS 45,000 for 80 hours a little low for somebody with experience and a Tefl certification?
Any help will be appreciated |

Hi, micro.
The Shane English schools have a strong network in Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand, England and South Africa. It is a good group to gain experience with for a newcomer, but if you already have certification and experience, well, don't stop looking yet. While the Shane payment package does mean that actually the payment prospects are better than the 45 000 for 80 hours that you mention, most teachers would balk at this. Unless you are really in Taiwan for study of or the cultural experience, you will probably want more teaching hours and more money. Teaching language school you can make at least 55 000 for teaching a halfday without having to do any moonlighting. If you really are in this for the sheer love of it and you've already made your first million, take that Fengshan job! if not, well, keep looking. You can get a better deal. Good luck. |

Hey Micro,
Shane is, overall, a very good option for a teacher. It's a British Company, which is a benefit and you are surrounded by a good network of foreign teachers. As far as I know their teachers generally stay well beyond their contract, which shows quite a lot.
The pay scale isn't entirely indicative of how much money you can make. It's just the minimum guarantee as the first month or two you might not make as much with training and such.
Overall, it's a safe choice where you know you will be treated well, have good training and receive a fair salary. No job is perfect, but from what I know, Shane is pretty good. |

Im also a bit concerned about working saturdays. With shane they give you sundays and one other day off, which i guess is usually during the week. Ive heard since you work evenings, anytime you have off, the most you can really do for fun is go on a day trip.
Should i try to get another job that does not include saturdays? How much of a pain is it? |
