I'm asking this for a university friend of mine. He has an M.Arch III along with 4 yrs experience working for a firm. I wonder if any of this could be useful overseas to get a teaching gig and/or if he could work for a firm in Japan or W Europe (he has dual British-Canadian citizenship too, if that's relevant) anyway, this may not be the best place to ask such a question and it's a bit general, but I thought I'd give it a shot.... My friend is in major debt (loans) so I'm just concerned, etc.
Cheers,

If he is in major debt, then going into TEFL would only be a solution in so much as he could run away from his debts-a not uncommon thing amongst TEFLers. Of course he would have to face the music one day. |

I'm running away from debt and I haven't even begun working. What a great start to life, eh? |

Could be worse, at least you realize your mistake and are willing to face it. |

Most people in Korea - teaching EFL - can save about US$10-15,000 a year. Not a bad way to deal with the problem.
I have taught in Korea twice - both times about three years each - usually to buy some property or to pay it off. Korea has been very good to my bank account.
Give it a shot! |

Taiwan is another country where even a starting teacher can save close to $1000 US per month - but you have to like teaching kids. |
