yes, they do infact exist! However, they seem to be far and few between. Has anyone experienced or know anyone who's experienced this? I tried look at major cruise liner websites but didnt find anything useful in the help wanted stuff. Any info would be great

*also, i did search the forums already and found one topic regarding this already, but not to much avail, just hoping some new light could be shed on the inquiry.

This is one of the urban legends of TESL. You may have also heard of people in Korea/Japan/Hong Kong making $150-$200 an hour with a full schedule.

Another one is getting work as a model/film star in Japan. Like the $150/hour jobs this may have happened 20 years ago, but probably not.

it must be really rare, i just took an ESL certification course and the instructor said one of her former students was currently teaching for a cruise line, which is how i got interested, oh well, thanks tho

A quick browse shows me a bunch of jobs you would expect to find on a boat. If that's your thing ok, but I still don't see much demand for an ESL teacher on a cruise.

I taught for a while at the International Hotel and Tourism Management Training School in Bangkok and we frequently placed our students with the cruise lines. They came to the school to recruit out students.

The job interviews were ALWAYS in English - and if the students didn't have good English skills. they weren't hired.

One thing that makes me doubt that there are many EFL jobs on cruise ships is that the jobs students applied for were typically 12 hour day, 7 day week type jobs - when would they attend EFL classes and study?

Cruise ship jobs are typically work/sleep type jobs - where you may even share your bed with the person who works the opposite shift. Great for third world folks who will jump at a chance to save US$10,000 in a year - and unheard of opportunity for them - but not so great for those of us who might not want to work a nine-month shift of 12 hours days - without a single day off.

These jobs are not "Love Boat" jobs.

The links are to companies that hire for cruise ships. Ever consider sending them a letter asking about ESL/EFL jobs that may be in addition to listed jobs?

The peace boat teacher that I met was teaching the passengers, not the staff- from what I've heard, cruise ship staff don't have enough time to eat, let alone study, on many lines. But there are probably a few lines out there that offer EFL to aid their passengers in their international experiences.

I was once offered a job as cruise ship entertainer, which is probably better than many gigs on board, but the weird schedules, shared accomodation, and limiting work conditions put me off it.
