I am in exactly the same position as you Malsol.

A nice city with little if no western conveniences. Was the most polluted city in China a few years back though things are changing. DVD's at 7 RMB, therefore not a cheap place to live. 13 hours by train to the nearest 'decent' city (Chengdu).

School is quite modern. Friendly staff and excellent students. Teaching load is smaller than normal though the preperation time makes for a 9 to 5 job.

The reason I am leaving: the salary. After negotiating the contract a few times it was going nowhere. Ask for something and one of two things would happen, an extra clause or loss of benefits. The pity is, I like working here. But at the end of the day, after being qualified and gaining more than two years experience in China, I am not going to work for the same figure as any newbie. Especially not when I am doing the same job as it takes for 2 teachers!

I will probably get my a$$ kicked on monday as I have been told to no longer post on here Confused

I will teach 12 periods for 10,500 per month and get paid for all 12 months, not just hours worked.

Will you be teaching English or business? ( . )( . )

Que? For real? Who would tell you such a thing?

My situation is somewhat different from yours. I'm leaving a decent job in a great little city because I need to head home, head back to school and most importantly be with my wife, who was going to come over before being offered her dream teaching job back home. Again, I like it here, but as it's far from being my dream job, I'm happy to head back for a year or two and upgrade my qualifications.
