I was wondering if anyone has given take home exams and how they felt with the results.
I am not concerned about students copying. I am sure they will do some. |

I find take home exams more work for me. Knowing that some students will cheat (they would try, regardless of the format, venue, and even of the penalties), I calculated the maximum workload that could be done in the minimum of time in order for an average student to score within the 70 - 75 percentile (I'm a 75% class average nut - almost nine years and I've managed to get close to it every time, plus or minus a few points).
The reason why I emphasise a heavy workload in the shortest amount of time possible is to dissuade the patsies from being able to assist the slackers. You can also offer an early hand-in bonus...it encourages the keeners to work dilligently and submit their papers before the leechers get a chance to copy.
Good luck if you're contemplating take homes! |
