Ive read the "my year at kojen" post and there seems to be some negative points about the school. A lot of these comments seem to deal with illegal employment and pre-school.

Does anybody have anything positive to say about kojen, or should i avoid them at all costs?

Any contacts that can put you up for a couple of months while you find the right place to live?

You could do worse than the big yellow school bux. Take the soft landing if you need to. I still stand by the thought that coming here sans jobs and looking around is the best way to go, but that is not always feasible. Steady employment witha soft landing is hard to beat when something like moving to another continent is involved.

i have 2 years of teaching experience, but not in asia. I also have my Tefl degree. Where on the board should i look for more in depth discussions on kojen?

I used to work at this school a few years ago. I think if you are new to Taiwan and have no previous teaching experience then it would be a good choice. They have a well developed curriculum with a huge library of supplementary materials. They also give new teachers some useful training and support. Working there you will always get paid on time and have no hassles with getting an ARC.

If you have some teaching experience you might want to look around a bit more. If for no other reason than you won't get paid much extra for your experience (at Kojen).

It is also worth noting that the management and staff varies from branch to branch. And if you read a report saying that school X was a bad place to work in 2003 that doesn't necessarily mean that it is still a bad place now.

don't read too much into one negative report. Remember this is a big chain of schools that employs hundreds of teachers. There are always going to be a few disgruntled employees.

I'll echo what everyone else is saying: Kojen is overall a pretty good place.

Think about any large Company back home. There are bound to be both positive and negative opinions. Some of the largest Companies in the world get extremely mixed reviews. Does everyone like working at JP Morgan or Morgan Stanley? Of course not. Would you say that makes it a bad Company? Definitely not.
There are going to be lots to read about Companies that have a lot of employees. Kojen is no different.

Overall, it's a very safe place to work. They also will give you real training. You will learn a skill, even if you do work a little harder. The same cannot be said for a lot of schools that just want you to jump around the classroom and entertain for awhile.
