Hi

Does anyone else have to write assessment reports for kindergarten/preschool aged kids?

I am struggling to come up with some good "constructive criticism" that will be acceptable to my boss!

Does anyone have any good links to resources for writing assessment reports?

Any suggestions for what to say when a kid doesn't participate in English at ALL??

THANKS!

wow that website is great. have just added it to my favourites list.

i think that if a child is not participating in things in class parents need to be told the truth. there might be some underlying reason that the parents can tell you about that can the help you help the child and also parents can then help and encourage thier children at home with any problems they are having at school. i know that some princpals don't like you to tell parents anything bad about their kids but parents need to know.

some of my students do not attempt to speak to me in english and do not have any interest in the english lesson (even when we are playing games and no matter how hard i try to get them involved). i have found, after talking to their parents, that these children use no english at home and do not review the english that we are learning in class with their parents. this means that they have no idea what is going on in the lesson and so are very bored. i asked the parents to use simple english at home (to show the children that english is useful) and to review the coming week's vocabulary, songs, etc. i have found that this has helped alot.

Thanks for the link and the tips!

Finally got all my reports done on Friday (x50 kids!)

My principal is not keen on anything negative being written down in reports .. so I had to be pretty careful.. last term I was able to discuss some of the comments and keep them but anything saying they don't participate at all was a definite NO.

I have trouble with parents not reviewing English at home too .. but generally they are the same parents who continue to blame the english teacher for not being "good enough" .. despite all the suggestions for how to use some basic english each day at home! Sadly for those kids they have lagged well behind the rest of the class Sad

Have a good Monday!
